Mai Khao is eleven kilometres of beach with resorts spread along it and very little in between. When somebody is unwell, the journey is often the worst part of the problem. A doctor hotel visit in Mai Khao removes it — the consultation happens in your room, at any hour.
What arrives with the doctor
A visit bag built so most problems finish on the spot rather than becoming a second trip:
- Examination kit — blood pressure, oxygen saturation, temperature, otoscope
- Injectable anti-sickness, pain relief and antibiotics

The southern end towards Nai Yang is quicker. The far northern end near the Sarasin bridge takes longer. Traffic on Thepkasattri Road in the evening changes it more than distance does.

Mai Khao’s resorts are large and set well back from the road, often with a security gate and a long internal drive. Telling reception a doctor is expected saves more time than anything else you can do.
What this is genuinely good for
Stomach illness that has reached the point of not keeping water down — see food poisoning. An hour with a drip usually turns a wretched day around.
Fever in a child, where the car journey is the worst part of the illness — see children and family care.
Somebody too dizzy, too sore or too unwell to move safely. Sunburn that has blistered. Ears that hurt. And anybody who simply does not want to be seen leaving a resort to find a doctor, which is a reason we take seriously and never ask about.
What it is not right for
Anything time-critical. Chest pain, breathlessness at rest, stroke signs, a head injury with vomiting, uncontrolled bleeding, a seizure, or anybody who cannot be roused — call 1669 and go straight to a hospital.

A serious road accident is the same answer. And anything obviously needing imaging — if a wrist looks broken, the visit becomes a referral, and you have paid for a journey that ends in another journey.
Privacy at a resort
The doctor arrives in ordinary clothes with an unmarked bag. Nothing announces itself in a lobby, and the reason for the visit is not discussed with reception, security or anybody else.
That matters more at a resort than most places, where staff, guests and sometimes colleagues are all in the same building.
Notes, results and receipts go to you and nowhere else. If a tour operator, employer or insurer is paying, nothing is shared with them beyond what you specifically ask us to send.
Cost, and how it compares
A visit costs more than being seen at the clinic, because a doctor spends most of two hours travelling rather than seeing people. You are told the figure on the phone before anybody sets off, including the call-out and an estimate for likely treatment.
Set against two taxis from Mai Khao and a couple of hours of a holiday, the gap is smaller than it sounds — and considerably smaller if there are three of you in the same villa with the same stomach bug.

If several of you ate the same meal, say so when you call. Treating a group in one villa is quicker and cheaper than separate visits, and it changes what the doctor brings.

A fair number of questions do not need a visit. Whether a rash needs looking at, whether a temperature in a child is in the ordinary range, whether you are fit to fly on Thursday, whether something can safely wait until morning.
